CoolSculpting and liposuction both offer body-shaping results to remove excess unwanted fat and have the ability to get you a slimmer figure. However, both liposuction and CoolSculpting treatments differ in both the treatment itself and the post-treatment recovery. Discussing your ultimate goals with your plastic surgeon will help us both come to a decision about which treatment is best to achieve the results and get you the body shape you want with special attention to the time frame necessary for recovery.
CoolSculpting Is a Non-Invasive Fat Reducing Treatment
Traditional liposuction surgery requires multiple incisions in the skin to remove the fat. A cannula or hollow steel rod is inserted under the skin, which then removes fat from under the skin by high powered suction. CoolSculpting on the other hand eliminates unwanted fat using a completely non-invasive technique. Non-invasive means there are no needles, no incisions, no anesthesia, no scarring and especially no recovery time. The unwanted fat cells are cooled down to a temperature which fat cells die but the skin, blood vessels and nerves are not affected. The cooled fat cells then die and in several weeks will be naturally metabolized by your own body and eventually excreted. This leaves you with a thinner more sculpted look without surgery
CoolSculpting Has No Downtime for Recovery
Following a traditional liposuction procedure, significant recovery time is required. Typically a week or so is required away from work and you will also require some help around the house and need some pain medicine and also need to wear a compression garment for several weeks after liposuction. Due to its non-invasive nature, your CoolSculpting procedure requires no recovery downtime. You can immediately return to work following your procedure with no time off from work. No compression garment is needed and little or no swelling or bruising occurs. CoolSculpting minimal side effects include mild tenderness or temporary numbness in the treated resolves within a few hours of treatment.
