Hyperpigmentation near Philadelphia, PA
Centrally located in Southampton and serving Philadelphia, Bucks, and Montgomery Counties, the Kole Plastic Surgery Center uses the PicoSure® laser for patients with hyperpigmentation.
Hyperpigmentation is common and can affect just about anyone. It leads to dark spots on the skin that are the result of excessive melanin production in areas of the skin that have been overexposed to ultraviolet rays. Some people are born with pigment legions. However, in most people, pigmentation represents one of the first telltale signs of aging. Brown spots, dark spots, age spots, sunspots, freckles, and liver spots are all forms of hyperpigmentation. Regardless of how the spots occur, most people want them removed because they don’t like the way they look.
The Kole Plastic Surgery Center stands alone as the only provider in the tri-county area of Philadelphia, Bucks and Montgomery Counties to use the state-of-the-art technology of the PicoSure® laser to eliminate brown spots and for other anti-aging treatments. The PicoSure® laser allows doctors to treat brown spots quicker than they ever could. It works by using short energy bursts to target and remove dark pigmentation, without harming the skin around the brown spot. After just a few treatments, patients see a visible change in the clarity of their skin, and without the downtime.
Dark spots often appear due to:
- Exposure to UV rays
- Skin trauma
- Hormonal imbalance
- Chemicals found in creams and cosmetics
Sunspots are often thought to be a major symptom of aging. All skin tones and skin types can be affected by dark spots. For some individuals, they appear at a young age or even at birth.
Skin pigmentation is categorized as follows:
- Superficial or epidermal pigmentation
- Deep or dermal pigmentation
- Mixed dermal pigmentation
How Does Laser Dark Spot Removal Work?
The PicoSure® process for removing dark spots is effective because lasers are able to penetrate deep below the surface of the skin, destroying the melanin that causes hyperpigmentation. PressureWave™ technology is used to send a safe laser pulse that lasts one trillionth of a second under the skin surface, thereby removing the brown spot. This laser, which pulsates 100 times faster than a nanosecond, breaks down dark spots into smaller particles that are then absorbed by the body’s circulatory and lymphatic systems. Within a short period of time, a person will begin to see the dark spots on their neck, face, chest, arms, hands, and legs disappear.
What To Expect During Dark Spot Removal
The removal process is quick. Most sessions last for less than a half an hour. For the best results, some patients may require several treatments based on the size and the darkness of their hyperpigmentation. The PicoSure® process for removing dark spots causes very little pain. Many patients say that the laser pulses it produces are comparable to being snapped by a thin rubber band. Side effects of laser treatment are few and include redness or swelling in the treated area. In most cases, patients can go back to their everyday activities right away after treatment.
