Facts About Female Ear Surgery in The Philadelphia Area

Facts About  Ear Surgery for Women in The Philadelphia Area

Ears that protrude from a woman’s head are an enormous concern and cause great anxiety, regardless of age.  This is why many women seek out Otoplasty, the medical term for ear surgery, to correct their ears.  Recent statistics show the satisfaction rate of this procedure, for most patients, is extremely high and women who need their ears corrected have become more interested than ever before.  Patients share that they are frustrated with feeling self-conscious, wearing their long hair over the ears, wearing hats that cover the ears, being unable to pull their hair back and many more reasons.

Usually protruding ears are caused by a defect in the structure of the ear cartilage.  There is an abnormality with the proper folding of the ear cartilage.  With Otoplasty, Dr. Edward Kole can correct a woman’s ear folds while at the same time adjust the proportion, of the ears in relation to the head and face, for a complete aesthetic view from any angle.

Female Ear Surgery Candidates:

  • Ears that are prominent
  • Ears that are protruding
  • Ears that are out of proportion in size or shape
  • Ears that are asymmetrical

It is true that with ear surgery, the younger it is performed, the better?

New improved surgical techniques have been made available and many young women, as well as women in their 40’s and up, who didn’t have the opportunity to have their ears corrected when they were children or teenagers are getting their ears corrected.  This is why many women are choosing to correct their ears as adults as long as they are in overall good health.

Ear Surgery Specifics

Usually this surgery is performed with the patient under IV general anesthesia.   Some patients undergo ear surgery using local anesthesia, as this reduces the post-operative recovery period by a significant amount of time.  Your personal plan for surgery will be tailored specific to your medical needs by Dr. Edward Kole, after your initial complimentary consultation.  Your safety and comfort are top priorities when you are in his hands and long after you leave the recovery room.

During ear surgery, an incision is made behind each ear then excess tissue is removed.  Remodeling of skin and cartilage is finished, in order to pin the ears back.  Incisions are then closed with removable or dissolvable stitches.  Because ear surgery is almost always performed on both ears, in order to provide the best cosmetic and symmetrical results, the entire surgery takes on average one to two hours to perform.  Scars are very well hidden in the folds of the ears.

Brief After Ear Surgery Facts

The initial recovery for women after their ear surgery is approximately 3-5 days although time varies for each patient.  You will have padding wrapped around your head and a headband to wear after that is removed.  Some patients resume normal daily activities within the week, although strenuous activity is not permitted for approximately 2 weeks.  You will have bruising and swelling.  Of course, you must be gentle with your ears and the surrounding area for two weeks while you heal.

Usually 3 months after an Otoplasty is performed, women see the true results and no longer worry about their insecurity, self-consciousness, negativity, anxiety and obsessive feelings surrounding their ears. This is well the last of the residual swelling has resolved.
