How is a full tummy tuck surgery performed?

There are different ways to perform a full tummy tuck. Generally, a full tummy tuck requires three incisions: one incision low under the bikini line from hipbone to hipbone, another circling around the belly button, and a final incision connecting the other two. This removes the entire distance from the belly button to the low pubic area.If you are having a problem visualizing this, it helps to think of the shape of a football or an ellipse.

Using these incisions, excess tissue and skin of the entire lower abdomen under the belly button is removed, liposuction is performed to remove any additional pockets of fat around the love handles area, and the remaining skin is pulled down from the upper abdomen like a window shade, tightened and secured.

After surgery, it’s important that patients follow our post-operative instructions for tummy tuck recovery so they heal as quickly as possible to avoid complications.
