A strong chin gives you an attractive profile and supports harmony to facial features as a whole. A face with small chin allows the nose to prevail and confuses the visual jump the eyes make from the jawline to the neck, causing an obscure look to the bottom portion of your facial area. In addition, when the jaw bone continues to naturally mature, the natural structure for the skin surrounding the jawline and chin relaxes and sets back. With chin implant surgery, also known as Chin Augmentation in the medical world, the purpose of the implant that is put in place is to provide the chin and jawline additional volume and shape.
The most volume of the chin implant and measurement applied is reliant upon your anatomy, as well as, nasal structure, ethnicity and gender. For male chin augmentation a fuller implant is implemented to construct a robust, carved line. In women, a less full implant is used to create the softest look. Kole Plastic Surgery might suggest a chin implant for those who are having a Rhinoplasty or nose job. This is because the prominence of the chin and nose go hand in hand for an optimal profile, along with the neck lift procedure. Dr. Kole is a board certified plastic surgeon with sound expertise and experience in chin implant surgery. He will help you visualize and understand which shape and size is best for you and your individual face when you sit down in your initial complimentary consultation.
Consultation Prior to Anything Else
In your initial complimentary consultation, Dr. Kole will appraise your chin and facial features. Measurements will be taken and different angles inspected to take in your face and the proportions, as a whole. Pictures of your facial features are standard protocol. This allows a visual during your conversation and questions concerning all aspects of surgery.
Basics About Your Chin Implant Surgery
You will be under general anesthesia. This allows patients to sleep through surgery. Chin Augmentation is an outpatient procedure. Once the procedure starts either on the inner mouth or beneath the chin a small incision is made which is where the implant is placed through then positioned. Once the chin implant is perfectly placed, sutures will secure it permanently. Additional sutures are needed to close the entrance incision. They are small and not visible if placed inside the mouth. Usually patients are unable to feel them. Results are extremely natural-looking from all views.
Recovery Time
You may be swollen and bruised for up to 1 week. Placing ice on and around your chin for the first 24-48 hours is important. When resting and in full sleep your head must remain elevated. Sutures are normally removed within a week to ten days. In two weeks you may begin to do light exercising. Any strenuous activities and contact sports are not permitted until a full month after your procedure. You might have some numbness and tingling around your chin but this will subside throughout the next few weeks. Follow-up appointments are scheduled with Dr. Kole to check on your healing and progress. Full healing from residual swelling and full healing with continue for up to six months.
