Preparation for Male Facelift surgery

Initial Consultation with your Plastic Surgeon

Patients should always have an in-person office consultation to meet their surgeon.  You will discuss the specific areas you wish to rejuvenate and learn about which procedures, if any, performed in conjunction, will produce optimal results.  Just as important, a consultation gives patients the time to process a realistic understanding of what your male facelift can accomplish in your daily life and years from now.  A detailed discussion about facelift results and benefits always help to avoid disappointment after your surgery, healing and recovery.  During consultations you should also feel ensured that Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, Edward S. Kole, has the qualifications and experience you are looking for and are comfortable with, upon leaving the office.  You will know prior to leaving your consultation if you are a candidate for the procedure or whether an alternate enhancement surgery might be suited to your needs.

Before your male facelift you will be informed of some additional and interesting information, such as:

  • Surgery usually takes between 2—3 hours
  • Additional surgical procedures will add time to the procedure
  • Dr. Kole may schedule two separate sessions if performing several procedures
  • Priority at our office is always ‘safety first’
  • Age is rarely a factor in deciding if a male facelift is suitable for a patient
  • Condition and texture of skin are more important factors than a patient’s age when determining if the procedure is suitable
  • Most facelift patients are between 45—72 years old
  • Always use a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon for facial rejuvenation procedures

Several Weeks before Surgery

Patients are asked to stop smoking during the 2 months prior to facelift surgery.  You must adhere to this requirement for your own safety.  Smoking negatively affects the healing process because it alters facial blood flow.  Medications that cause blood thinning, such as:  aspirin, ibuprofen, acetaminophen, herbal remedies, Vitamin E and additional medications, per Dr. Kole’s instructions, should be avoided during the same time that smoking is ceased.  Some patients might be prescribed medications to use in order to ensure a successful procedure.  It is important that you follow pre-op directions.

Day before Surgery and Day of Surgery

In order to decrease the risk of infection your hair should be washed.  Alcohol needs to be avoided with or without meals.  It is important to do your best in getting to bed early so you are well rested.  Dr. Kole will give you additional instructions  to adhere to at your preoperative appointment prior to surgery.

Patients will be given general anesthesia for their male facelift.  You will sleep through your entire surgery and awaken in the recovery room.  Another adult must be on-site to drive you home due to the lasting effects of anesthesia.  You will receive your detailed list of post-op instructions.  Please follow these closely to help maximize a safe and successful recovery and healing period.

There are more men opting for facial enhancement procedures.  Facelifts are performed often and male patients interested in looking younger, rejuvenated and also ready for the competition in the tough job market.  We invite you to sit down with Kole Plastic Surgery to discuss your options and candidacy.
