Mini vs. Full Tummy Tuck Differences near Philadelphia

A Mini-Tummy Tuck Surgery is very different than a full tummy tuck procedure.  All of the fuss surrounding this mini tummy tuck cosmetic procedure is justified.  The mini-tummy tuck surgery has quite a few differences that are an advantage for patients who can remedy their abdominal protrusion with the mini-procedure.  The original full tummy tuck surgery has been around for a long time now.  It’s one of the most popular cosmetic procedures since it debuted and still holds its’ rank.  A full tummy tuck is an invasive surgery performed with the goal being to tighten the abdominal area, remove extra skin and fat from the upper and lower abdominal area.  With the mini-tummy tuck procedure the focus is on the skin, fat and muscle from the navel to the pubic bone.

Additional differences with the mini-tummy tuck surgery are:

  • Perfect for those who have abdominal protrusion from the belly button and below
  • Suitable for women who have the ‘muffin top’ leftover from C-section surgery
  • For patients with extra skin sagging below the belly button
  • Incision is made just above the pubic bone and extends into the groin crease
  • Surgery is significantly shorter than a full tummy tuck
  • Substantially less amount of time under general anesthesia
  • Less incision length equals less recovery time
  • Aggressive liposuction of the upper adominal area
  • Costs are approximately $4500 vs $7500 plus anesthesia and facility fees

Both procedures have the same post-surgical healing involved such as:  bruising, soreness, tingling, pain and risks that occur with any procedure involving incisions and sutures which could be bleeding, infection, and poor scarring.  Dr. Kole doesn’t recommend either surgery for those who plan on having a first or another pregnancy and anyone in the process of losing a major amount of weight.

The mini-tummy tuck procedure is perfect for patients who wish to focus on mostly firming up loose muscles and ridding themselves of loose extra abdominal skin below their belly button. Both procedures require rest immediately following your return home from the recovery room.  Pain is treated with medication and both procedures also require the use of a compression garment.  Heavy lifting and strenuous activities and exercise must be avoided in the beginning.  With a mini-tummy tuck you may begin your active life style sooner, although your follow-up visit with Dr. Kole is important to determine your healing progress and discuss the start of any exercising as there isn’t always a simple standard protocol.  Each patient heals differently and must be evaluated at their scheduled appointments.  The mini-tummy tuck has great advantages if you require abdominal repair below the belly button.  Dr. Kole will give his honest, expert opinion before you decide to proceed and attain that flatter, toned tummy you deserve.
