The facelift has been popular for over 40 years now. There’s no denying that a facelift is a surgical facial procedure for patients who wish facial rejuvenation. However, due to the significant recovery time both pain-wise and socially, patients have gravitated toward a less-invasive form of this age-defying surgery that minimizes the discomfort as well as the recovery time. That mini facelift is topic of this article.
Want to look like Joan Rivers?
Patients typically associate a typical facelift with the “Joan Rivers” look. That kind of facelift pulls the skin very tightly on the face and leaves your eyes looking like slits and your mouth looking like a duck mouth. It is completely understandable that most patients just don’t want to look that way. The good news is plastic surgeons and advances in procedural techniques have made that desire possible.
Sometimes less is more
Many patients choose to treat their aging skin proactively. Smaller, less invasive procedures are often performed to obtain slightly lesser results with significantly less recovery time. A full facelift may still be performed later on when the aging process has exceeded the maximum benefit of the smaller procedure, but they can do things before that point to insure that you age more slowly and gracefully.
The mini face lift
The mini face lift focuses on the lower third of your face from the bottom of the nose to your lower neckline. The problem areas for aging of the face that a mini face lift addresses are:
- Folds from the nose to the mouth
- Jawline
- Jowls
- Neck
The mini face lift rejuvenates the above problem areas of your face in about one hour.
The mini face lift procedure
The mini face lift procedure can be performed under local anesthesia in the procedure room or under mild sedation in the operating room. After appropriate anesthesia takes effect, a small incision is made following the edge of their hairline by the temple and around their ear. This type of incision makes the scarring less visible during after the incision is completely healed. The excess skin is elevated and the muscles are tightened under the skin and subsequently lifted. The excess skin is excised leaving you with a smooth, more refreshed contour. There is no need for heavy bandages or the “mummy” bandages. Pain relief is accomplished with extra strength Tylenol or less frequently a low level narcotic oral medications. Most patients can go back the next day and the bruising, if any subsides within a week.
