How is eyelid surgery performed?
There are many cosmetic surgical techniques to improve the appearance of your upper eyelids, lower eyelids or both. However, Dr. Kole will suggest the best technique for your surgery. The surgery depends heavily on the physical examination in which the amount of excess fat and skin around your eyes, eyebrow position are determined. Both the upper and lower eyelid surgery can be performed under local or general anesthesia in the hospital or surgical center or in conjunction with other procedures.
- Upper eyelids: During this upper blepharoplasty procedure, Dr. Kole will make an incision within the natural fold of the upper eyelid. This incision blend perfectly into the fold and extends into your lateral crow’s feet. Through this incision, Dr. Kole will remove the extra fatty tissue as well as excess skin and the muscles are tightened.
- Lower eyelids: During this lower blepharoplasty procedure, Dr. Kole will make an incision just below your lower eyelash line. Through this incision, Dr. Kole will remove the excess skin and fat to correct the baggy lower eyelids. The incision is nearly invisible even without makeup.
After the surgery, you may experience some temporary bruising and swelling for several weeks. You will be given artificial tear drops and ointment to lubricate your eyes after surgery. In addition you will use cold compresses to help decrease the swelling. You should also avoid direct sunlight and drafts or winds for several weeks after your surgery.
