How to determine your “after” size “before” breast augmentation surgery

Philadelphia and Bucks County Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation has been around a long time. In the early 20th century before silicone women have augmented their breasts with glass balls, ivory, wood chips, peanut oil and even ox cartilage. Even with advancements in 3D imaging, preoperative consultation kits and take home implants, some women patients still want to see what their “after”results would look like “before” surgery.  If you are looking for a way to test out how your breasts will look after surgery, then this article is your answer. We’ll review the basics of sizing breast implants:

The Rice Method

This breast sizing formula may be considered old-fashioned but it still works.

What you will need:

· Knee-high stockings

· Rice

· Sports bra

Fill the stockings with the equivalent measurement of rice, securely tie them and put them on under your sports bra.

Here are the appropriate conversions from cups to cc’s:

  • 1 cup = 236cc
  • 1/2 cup = 118cc
  • 3/4 cup = 177cc
  • 1/4 cup = 59cc
  • 1/3 cup = 78cc
  • 2/3 cup = 156cc
  • 1/8 cup = 30cc

Remember, this will only shows you an approximate result.

The “not too big – not too small “ Method

In this method  your breast tissue and bodies anatomy will determine the size of your implants.

Factors to take into consideration:

· Amount of natural breast tissue available to “hide” the implant: The implant will be more palpable with thin natural breast tissue coverage. Often one breast has a slightly different volume than the other.

· Shape of sternum “breast bone: A narrow breast bone will allow the implants to be placed closed together and will show better cleavage than the person with a wider breast bone.

· Deformities in chest wall: Scoliosis and rib abnormalities all contribute to breast shape.

· Body weight: heavier women usually have larger breasts and larger frames and require more implant volume to increase the cup size than thin women do.

The best way to show Dr. Kole the type of results you want is to bring in a series of three pictures:

A picture that you feel is “too large”

A picture that you feel is “too small”

A picture that you feel is “just right”

In addition, the upper roundness of the breasts also has to be decided. The full spectrum from the round “push up” look with full round -obviously enhanced breasts to a more natural look will also be decided.

This gives us a clear idea of what you like and dislike and will help Dr. Kole and you tailor a surgical plan that will give you the results you want.
