Liposuction is removal of unwanted fat from under your skin. Although the liposuction procedure itself may differ by how the fat is removed from under the skin by either using:
Laser liposuction
Traditional (manual) liposuction
Ultrasound
Smart liposuction
Water jet liposuction
Power assisted liposuction
The recovery for all these liposuction procedures are basically the same. The difference between a rocky recovery and a smooth recovery can be a fine line.
The patient’s post-operative discomfort level is a major factor in the overall recovery process. These are several variables that can affect how you heal and how you feel after liposuction.
The factors include:
- The volume of fat removed
- Anesthesia type
- Surgeons skill level
Liposuction recovery in general
Since every patient is different, Dr Kole will devise a customized plan to help facilitate your recovery.
After the actual liposuction procedure you may feel slightly nauseated, especially if you had intravenous sedation or general anesthesia for your procedure. After the anesthesia fluid that was placed under your skin to help remove the fat wears off, you will have some discomfort. This is when the recovery process starts.
After the anesthesia fluid wears off, you will require some pain medicine at regular intervals to help with the discomfort. In addition, a compression garment is used to help with the swelling. This garment is worn for up to two weeks time. There will be no drain tubes placed inside your body. You will receive personalized liposuction post-operative instructions from Dr. Kole.
No matter which kind of liposuction that is used to remove the fat, you will experience some:
- Discomfort
- Bruising
- Swelling
In addition to the compression garment needed to be worn, one must avoid strenuous activities, aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory products (NSAIDS) for two weeks. A comprehensive list will be given to you at your pre-operative appointment.
The first step is the initial consultation with Dr. Kole to see if you are a liposuction candidate.
