Neck Lift Surgery Basics near Philadelphia and Bucks County area.

Neck Lift surgery is also called Platysmaplasty by plastic surgeons. A Neck Lift basically tightens muscles in the neck, removes saggy skin and extra fat deposits. It is a solution for people with sagging skin and muscles and also early onset aging necks, or a “gobble- gobble looking neck” or “turkey neck”, as it is often referred to because of the resemblance. Many people of different age ranges that feel unconfident in their daily lives about how their neck looks and feels and live a healthy lifestyle are encouraged to think about having this surgery.

The surgical incisions occurs in the back of the ears and underneath and below the chin. From there a section of muscle and fat is taken out as the fat is removed by liposuction and the muscles are sutured back together into their proper anatomical positions. In order to achieve the most optimal firmness, normally a certain amount of skin is pulled appropriately tight around the ear area. Neck Lift surgery takes, on average 2 hours. The procedure can and many times is performed in conjunction with a Face Lift, a Mini Face-Lift, Blepharoplasty or an Eyebrow Lift.

Once Neck Lift surgery is finished the neck will be sore, firm and mildly swollen. There will be bruising, numbness, puffiness and some swelling. For three to four weeks patients need to avoid all strenuous activities. This time frame is different for each individual, as healing and the resolution of swelling varies per patient.

Platysmaplasty is a popular and well received surgery. Even so, as with all elective plastic surgical procedures, there are always risks involved and unforeseen. Anesthesia presents risks of its’ own and they will be discussed during consultation, along with the disclosure of full medical history. This is why patients need to share all of their medical conditions and current prescriptions without worrying about repercussions. Safety is number one priority. Some other risks involved are the possibilities of tingling, blood collections under the skin, uneven lumpy settling once healing is complete. Any of these minor complications can be remedied by a small touch up procedure done several months after surgery under local anesthesia if necessary. Once completely healed patients look much younger and even thinner due to the entire neck area being slimmed down and visually elongated.
