Recovery After a Male Facelift near Philadelphia PA

After a male facelift surgery there is a recovery and healing time. Facelift procedures provide wonderful results for men. It is important, though, that patients take into consideration the post-op steps, of recovery and healing, before having this or any facial enhancement surgery combined with your facelift. It is an invasive procedure with great perks. Men look younger after fatty areas are removed with saggy facial skin and muscles tightened during surgery. Removal of extra skin corrects the loose skin that was there prior to surgery.

Immediately after surgery your face and head will have bandages placed loosely to help with initial bruising and swelling. Sometimes a tube used for draining fluids and blood, which is inserted behind the ear. This allows for a decreased chance of the fluids from collecting under the skin. There is pain and medication is given to help maximize your comfort level. You will need to keep your head elevated on several pillows, rest and remain hydrated during this crucial time period. During your recovery, it is important to give yourself the proper time healing time needed and expect to experience the following for approximately two weeks:

  • Swelling
  • Minor Numbness
  • Tightness
  • Skin discoloration

All sutures and bandages need to remain dry until given permission to shower or bathe. Your stitches will be taken out within one week. Glimpses of initial results become more visible soon afterward. If you had Rhinoplasty, Cheek Implants or Blepharoplasty in conjunction with facelift surgery, Dr. Kole will have specific instructions that apply and a customized recovery plan.

Healing and Recovery

Every patient heals in their own time. Male facelift surgery healing and recovery time tends to last from 2—4 weeks. This time frame is also dependent upon the type of enhancements made, custom to your facial needs, and if any other procedures were included. Many patients are able to go back to work, after 12—14 days. Hair styling with a blow dryer and shaving aren’t allowed for a longer amount of time. Again, depending on the extent of work performed during your facelift, the only physical exertion permitted are stretching and walking. Heavy lifting, climbing, rigorous exercise, housework, gardening and bending have to be avoided for four weeks. In addition, alcohol, saunas and cigarette smoking and long-distance travel should not occur throughout the initial 4 weeks, as well. Time frames are based on averages and will be adjusted to how healing progresses.

Residual swelling can last for up to six months while the bruising disappears first. When there is residual swelling for that length of time, the initial post-op numbness and tingling may remain.
