Recovery After a Mini-Tummy Tuck in Bucks County and Philly

Usually mini-tummy tuck surgery is performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. This means you will be sleeping through the entire procedure. Often the residual effects of general anesthesia remain in patients for 24-48 hours. Immediately upon waking up in the recovery area, though, you will be dazed and confused. This is why it is mandatory for an adult to be with you and pre-arrangements made to drive you home, as well as, get you situated and keep a careful eye on you for the first day or so. During this time period you will feel tired and it is important to listen to your body. Rest, relax, take your pain medication as prescribed, stay hydrated by drinking non-alcoholic beverages and rest some more.

Some Do’s and Don’ts Once Up and About after your Mini Tummy Tuck Surgery

  • Do begin walking, SLOWLY, when you feel balanced and co-ordinated to help reduce possible trouble with circulation and blood clot formation
  • Do not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery while you are using your pain medicine, as they are narcotics
  • Do not drive a vehicle until you are able to move your arms completely
  • Do not bend and carry anything heavier than 10 pounds for a minimum of 2 weeks
  • Do not strain, pull or compromise your abdominal area with any rigorous activities and exercise even if you feel you are ready for at least 3-4weeks
  • Do go back to employment if you feel ready after 2 weeks

While you are busy healing and following the rules concerning what you may not do in the beginning, there are important steps you need to follow for proper healing of your wounds. After 3 to 5 days after surgery showering is fine if cleared by Dr. Kole. Look to see there aren’t indications of any infection. Your stitches will dissolve on their own. Your swelling and tenderness should begin to go away within 1-2 weeks.
