The Basics about Women and Ear Surgery in the Philadelphia area

There are quite a few reasons for cosmetic ear surgery in addition to having protruding ears.  Ladies who have had ears that are uneven and protrude often spend years wearing their hair long in order to cover up their ears.  They have been uncomfortable with how they appear and choose to keep their hair long, without pulling it back.  Often, they share that it has been since their teen years that they have wished someone fixed their ears.  Ears can be cosmetically altered with complications being infrequent and minor.  Dr. Kole performs Otoplasty, the medical term for ear plastic surgery, on an outpatient basis, from his licensed ambulatory surgical center.

Other ear problems that women seek out surgical help for include the following:

  • Deformities and injuries that cause the need for new outer ears to be reconstructed
  • Shell Ear which is a condition when the natural creases, folds and curve in the outer rim are missing
  • Lop Ear which is a condition when the top of the outer ear folds forward and down
  • Cupped Ear which is a condition when the outer ear is extremely small
  • Cleft Earlobes which is a condition usually from women who have worn heavy earrings over the years that have caused pulling and tears, also earrings that have been pulled out.

This popular procedure lasts approximately 60-90 minutes, based on your specific surgical reconstruction plan.  General anesthesia is used, so that you will be asleep during surgery.  For a few days following your procedure, soft bandages will be worn, in order to keep the area protected.  You will be back to work or your normal schedule within a week.  You should be fully healed within six to eight weeks.  Everybody heals differently and the average time may vary.  As with all elective surgeries, risks and side effects do exist.  It is extremely important that you disclose any existing medical conditions, answer questions honestly and ask as many questions you may have when discussing ear plastic surgery during the initial complimentary consultation.

Dr. Kole believes that your safety is top priority.  Otoplasty can have a positive impact on your confidence and appearance.  Women share these sentiments shortly after healing, especially when they see their natural looking results and ears they have envisioned for so long.
