The Cost of Male Blepharoplasty Eyelid surgery in the Philadelphia area

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, can vary in cost because the procedure will vary depending on the individual’s eyes.  Blepharoplasty can address upper and lower eyelid sagging as well as manipulate the fatty tissue and muscle under the eye, and depending on what combination of symptoms are treated during surgery, costs will vary.   Male blepharoplasty, which differs from female blepharoplasty in numerous ways, has special considerations that are taken into account when determining the price of the surgery.

There are actually three fees associated with blepharoplasty procedures: anesthesia fee, surgeon fees, and facility fees.  The greatest variation in these three fees will occur if the blepharoplasty procedure is performed along with other procedures, like a brow or face lift, and the facility and anesthesia fees may cover more than one procedure.  Surgeon fees will also change depending on the experience and expertise of your chosen surgeon, but a rough estimate would be around $3,000 for a blepharoplasty.   In 2007, the average surgeon fee was $2,480 for the eyelid procedure according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.  That fee may increase if you are electing a surgeon that is an expert in male blepharoplasty, but rest assured—the quality of the procedure will certainly outweigh any added costs!

Male blepharoplasty procedures tend to require less manipulation of the eyelids, skin, and muscles around the eyes.  While women may want their eyes to appear more round or lifted, men tend to want to maintain almond-shaped eyes with lower eyelid creases to avoid appearing feminine after surgery.  For this reason, male blepharoplasty tends to remove less skin and requires less lifting than the classic eyelid surgery.  For this reason, costs may be less because the procedure could require less time and less invasive measures.  However, surgeons who are experts in male blepharoplasty may come at a higher cost due to their knowledge about what men desire and the different techniques that the male surgery requires.  For this reason, the cost may even out and male blepharoplasty procedures probably will not differ greatly from the classic blepharoplasty for females.

When electing blepharoplasty procedures, it is important to keep in mind the reasons for the procedure for insurance purposes.  While many blepharoplasty surgeries are done for aesthetic reasons, there are quite a few individuals who elect the surgery because they have impaired vision due to sagging eyelids, or ptosis.  If this is the case, your insurance might cover the costs of the procedure.  Each insurance company will be different and will require proof of impairment and various tests, but it may be worth the time it takes to work with Dr. Kole and your  insurance company in order to get the cost of the procedure covered.  If you are not visually impaired due to the sagging of your eyelids, blepharoplasty is generally not covered by insurance.

Financing is usually an option for individuals who want to pay off the cost of the procedure in monthly installments or numerous payments.  For more information about a payment plan, contact Dr Kole’s office to find out what financing options are available.
