Tummy Tuck Surgery: A Quick Read near Philadelphia

Tummy Tuck surgery know better in the medical world as Abdominoplasty is performed to help fix a tummy or the abdominal area that results from weakened muscles, excessive weight gain and often one or several pregnancies. When patients have weight variations, the skin in this region eventually loses its tightness. Often eating healthy and exercising doesn’t help once the muscles beneath are already stretched out and separated.

During Abdominoplasty, the muscles along the wall of the abdomen are manipulated and made tighter. Extra fat is removed which helps to either correct or create the body curve and silhouette. The underlying object is a thinner, flat level tummy. Practical expectations are desired don’t forget that tummy tuck surgery does not take the place of losing weight.

If you are currently losing weight it is important to be near your goal prior to having tummy tuck surgery. If you think you might have a first pregnancy or additional ones, it might not be a great idea to have surgery in order to keep the outcomes of pregnancy from changing your results. In order to keep all extra bleeding risks at a minimal, you must stop using NSAID medications and herbal supplements.

Tummy tuck surgery is performed with the patient under general anesthesia. Surgery takes up to three hours, pending how extensive your surgical plan may be. Based on your condition in the recovery room it will be determined at that time how long you will remain in recovery before being released to an adult driver to take you home. This surgery does need a low pubic area incision from one hip to the other and then straight across the pubic line. Another incision is cut around your belly button. The skin and abdominal wall are then separated from the incision area up to the ribs. This allows for access to underlying muscles, fat and tissue. While muscles are tightened and stitched up for permanency, extra fat and skin are taken. The large flap of skin is then placed back over the abdominal area and the belly button is re-built. All incisions are stitched as one. Usually small drains are put in to draw out fluid that gathers then tight bandages are placed on top.

In addition to your recovery there are a few areas of interest you might be interested in expanding on and they are the following:

  • Pain for first few day after surgery to be eased by medication
  • Bruising and swelling
  • Use of a compression garment
  • Stitches removed between 7-10 days
  • Rest, rest and rest
  • Recovery varies with each patient as no two individuals are the same
  • Usually a minimum of 12-14 days until able to return to work or small amount of daily routine
  • Costs vary anywhere from $3500 to $7500

Patients who normally eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly will yield optimal results from tummy tuck surgery. Results are truly incredible for those who have been disturbed by their abdomen’s anatomical feature from the front view and side profile. Patients are thrilled when their contours are proportioned with the remainder of their body.
