Why do men in the Philadelphia area get tummy tucks?

Many men remain active and maintain a healthy lifestyle.  Some men may have just lost a substantial amount of weight and now have loose saggy abdominal skin.  The natural process of aging also weakens the abdominal musculature and men also tend to accumulate extra fat around their midsections as they age.  There are many things that men can do to keep your weight in check but it is a tummy tuck (Male abdominoplasty) that is needed when you have weak muscles or extra skin from weight loss that will allow you to look and feel your very best.

Male abdominoplasty performed by Kole Plastic Surgery is the answer to your abdominal problems.  That stubborn fat and sagging extra skin will be gone for good.  Feeling fit and youthful in your clothing or bathing suit is an attainable goal.  When healing is complete, you will see the tighter and improved-looking abdominal area and there will be no doubt that the decision to reach out and proceed with your tummy tuck was the right one.

The main reasons for male abdominoplasty

Unlike female patients who usually have an abdominoplasty after weight gain from pregnancy, male patients who usually desire this tummy tuck procedure are those men who have:

  • Massive weight loss resulting in loose skin of the abdomen above or below the bellybutton
  • Stretching and resultant weakening of the abdominal muscles due to weight fluctuations
  • Having loss of self-esteem over your upper and lower abdomen

The male tummy tuck procedure

Under general anesthesia, an incision is made extremely low in the pubic area and the skin is elevated superiorly exposing the muscles of the abdominal wall. Using permanent suture, the separated muscles are sutured together from the breast bone to the pubic bone. The belly button is then repositioned and the extra redundant skin from the belly button down is excised and discarded. The incision is then closed leaving a scar in the pubic area easily hidden by clothing. Liposuction, if needed is performed to remove any residual fat over the love handles and also used to shorten the incision length. Drains are usually placed under the skin to remove any swelling fluid and an elastic binder is worn. Pain medicine and antibiotics are also prescribed.

After your tummy tuck

After your tummy tuck incision has healed adequately and you are cleared by Dr. Kole to start exercising again, you continue can start your cardio, crunches, sit ups and watching what you eat.  Being proactive with those measures will keep your post-operative shape in optimal form.  A tummy tuck will enhance and compliment all of your hard work.  Your clothes will fit more loosely.  The confidence you may have lost by having a flabby mid-section will bring an even larger incentive to remain physically active.
