Expert Plastic Surgeon Performs Liposuction of the Buttocks in Pennsylvania

The buttocks are made up of subcutaneous fat, or fat that lies just beneath the skin and the deeper gluteus muscle.  For many people, women in particular, too much stored fat in the buttocks is a major complaint.  Liposuction is an excellent option for women who want a more contoured, proportional buttocks, but it is extremely important to find a plastic surgeon who is experienced in this type of surgery.  At The Kole Plastic Surgery Center Center, Dr. Edward Kole has had great success in performing buttocks liposuction, and patients have been pleased with their results.

According to Dr. Kole, the key to a successful buttocks liposuction procedure is in achieving symmetry and proportionality.  Since the buttocks are made up of fat, it is important to know where to target for liposuction and where to leave fat.  Buttocks liposuction procedures run the risk of resulting in a flat, rippled buttocks if too much fat is removed, and it is quite difficult to restore a natural look after the area is over-done  Therefore, it is vital that your plastic surgeon is skilled in knowing when enough is enough in regards to buttocks liposuction.

Dr. Kole suggests that no more than 40% of the fat in the buttocks be removed during surgery.  This conservative estimate ensures that the buttocks will remain round and full, avoiding the sagging and rippling effect that is seen in the skin that occurs with too much fat removal.  For this procedure, moderation is key and finding a surgeon who follows that rule will yield optimal results.  The goal is to achieve a smooth, proportional, and symmetrical rear end that is still round in shape and appealing to the eye.

One technique that Dr. Kole makes sure to utilize during buttocks liposuction is using microcannulas to perform the procedure.  Cannulas are the small stainless steel tubes used to vacuum the fat out of targeted areas.  Microcannulas are small cannulas—less than 3 mm diameter—which work in the same way that larger cannulas do.  The smaller cannula can create a smoother look of the skin than larger cannulas, and the use of microcannulas will help to avoid any skin anomalies and rippling that sometimes is caused by larger cannulas.

In addition to sculpting the buttocks with liposuction, the small of the back can be addressed to achieve a more pleasing transition from the lower back into the buttock area and also the posterior thigh and lateral thigh called the “banana roll” can also be liposuctioned to achieve a whole total package of buttock, back and thigh.
